Testimony

Representing nearly 47 million members in the U.S., AAA welcomes every opportunity to speak on behalf of the nation’s motorist before Congress. The association continues to speak out on mobility and safety issues that will result in safer, more efficient roads and reduced congestion. AAA firmly believes that users must have a voice from the beginning as transportation decisions are made.

“Long-Term Financing Options for the Highway Trust Fund” »
Policymakers should consider all options to fund and finance transportation. Continued consideration of a national infrastructure bank as well as a vehicle mile tax should be part of the long range strategy.

“Future Federal Role for Surface Transportation” »
AAA believes there remains a compelling need for federal leadership and involvement in the surface transportation program, albeit in a revised and restructured form. Issues that impact the nation’s economic vitality and global competitiveness (like freight mobility and congestion) deserve a national focus. We also believe safety is an area where national leadership is required.

“Improving Roadway Safety: Assessing the Effectiveness of NHTSA’s Highway Traffic Safety Programs” »
AAA is calling for an increased focus on results and metrics in order to properly evaluate current safety programs so we invest in those projects and programs that are truly having an impact. Without good data, we can’t measure what’s working. Limited transportation dollars must be applied more effectively throughout the system by increased focus on testing and evaluation.
